Learn to Play Basketball at the Y!

Whether your child is picking up a basketball for the first time or looking to refine their skills, YMCA classes and clinics are the perfect opportunity to play, make new friends, and learn the game in a supportive community setting.

Basketball clinics are offered in the winter season. Browse our past winter classes and clinics to get a sense of our options and stay tuned for upcoming registration dates!

 

Parent & Child Clinics (Age 3-4)

Session Dates: February 24 - March 23 (5 classes)

What better way for your child to learn a sport than with you! This weekly parent-participation program is designed to develop motor, listening and fundamental skills in a variety of sports while fostering good sportsmanship and teamwork between parent and child.

Beginners Basketball Clinic, Ages 5-6

Session Dates: February 24 - March 23 (5 classes)

This youth basketball clinic focuses on basic skill development and fun. Class time is divided between skill development focusing on dribbling, shooting, passing and defense. In this fun and non-competitive environment players are able to enjoy the sport and learn the basic rules of basketball.

Beginners Basketball Clinic, Ages 7-8

Session Dates: February 24 - March 23 (5 classes)

Our youth basketball clinic focuses on skill development in a friendly semi-competitive environment. Class time is divided between skill development (dribbling, shooting, passing and defense) and scrimmages within the class time.

Family Hoops

Winter Session: January 13 - March 23

Looking for some basketball fun with your kids?

The Oakland Y will be offering Family Hoops time for members with children ages 12 & under. Families will have designated court time to shoot around and play family friendly games with one another! Basketballs will be provided.

Family hoops is for members only. Child must be active on the membership account and Parents/ Guardians must stay on the court at all times.

Family Hoops is drop-in and FREE for members
