Summer at Camp Loma Mar
After 8 weeks during summer, Camp Loma Mar wrapped up it’s overnight camp that welcomed more than 829 kids from all walks of life, included three local organizations - 99.7 NOW! radio station, Camp Corral, and YES Nature to Neighborhoods.
A summer at Camp Loma Mar is full of adventure, fun, friendships, and a great staff leading the way! Nestled at the foot of the Santa Cruz mountains and among the beautiful redwoods, camper days are packed with fun activities like hiking, swimming, zip lining, scaling the rock wall, and so much more.
A group of teens participated in Leaders in Training (LIT) and Counselors in Training (CIT), two programs that offer leadership training. The LIT program develops skills essential to become a leader, building self-confidence, learning to work as a team, planning activities and enhancing kid skills. LIT’s plan & deliver activities for kids, gain valuable hands-on experience shadowing camp staff, and develop a deep understanding of the inner workings of an overnight camp.
In the CIT program, teens train in child development and child abuse prevention, planning/delivering activities for kids, gain valuable hands-on experience shadowing camp staff, and develop a deep understanding of the inner workings of overnight camp.
Nearly 100 kids were on camperships, financial assistance offered to low-income families to send their kid to camp. A total of $67,480 was awarded in camperships.
